About Us

For over 25 years, the McAllisters have owned and operated the Hofbrau Steak House & Grille.

Sitting along the village’s main drag, some two miles north of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Hofbrau has been serving up tasty food and beverages for almost 100 years.

The building, originally a gas station and grocery, was built in 1908. By 1928, it was serving up camper lunches for the Arts Academy. By 1945, it became Peterson’s Tavern, and the McAllisters bought it from the Petersons in 1997. With its rustic wood-styled interior, the Hofbrau welcomes guests with a relaxing vibe. Large indoor seating nooks weave throughout the building, and the unique outdoor tiki-themed dining area (yes, there’s a sandy bottom) provides space for all, all supplied by a well-stocked bar that promises to ease the most intense thirst. The Hofbrau has been part of the rich history of Grand Traverse County for over 100 years.
